Learning Design Reflection

The learning session I had with Lucy (13yrs) on placing her own holds went really well. She is computer literate so that hurdle was none exsistent. She loved the idea that she could do it all herself and grasped quickly the look of different screens. I sometimes tried to give her too much info on the ins and outs of the catalogue but quickly returned to the idea of getting her started and the discovery and exploration was all hers from that point on.
Key lesson for me.. keep it short and simple, know that a young teenager can probably scan a screen faster than me and that they are mouse trigger happy!

Social networking

Trying to race through some stuff and do a catch up, so it is a good thing that I am already a facebook user. I do admit though I am an infrequent user and when I do visit I am totally engrossed in other peoples fascinating lives. I think it is a great tool to keep track of people on their travels especially and for those of us who live fortuitously through others! lol :)
The professional sites and those that have a link like minded people are a great way to speed up communications and get the message out there.
I am looking forward to some group stuff tomorrow.

The quickest way to make one feel stupid

Am having a whale of a time getting tied up in knots! I get the idea of it all but when it comes to practicalities of making it work I seem to be all over the place. Managed to get gadgets and widgets and a number of RSS feeds and even a podcast feed onto Google readerand my blog, however they are not necessarily the ones I was aiming for. I have learnt that i know little about managing a lot of windows at one time and that I am easily frustrated. I think perhaps I am not such a good learner on my own with techie things and that I do better with a show and tell approach. All great learning but am afraid I have little to offer in terms of handy helpful tips. Am still laughing though!

widgets and gadgets

Whew, those are impressive widgets on the digital sites and the library sites. I think it is very cool how you can add to other widgets and use them from other sources to not have to reinvent the wheel so much. I am techno freaked with how to go about it though and a little time pressured to give it a real good go.
I got stuck on how to put them onto the side of my blog and now have 3 odd sized gadgets on my blog!

Well, have now bounced around several widgets and gadgets I am suitable impressed by those that build these things, but will have to go with the 'click and add' option for my blog and sharing. The techno stuff is too goobly-gook for me
